Could you give us a brief overview of Firefly Legal?
My father and I established Firefly Legal in 1996 as a local civil process service company in Chicago. When the computer era exploded, we decided to expand our footprint regionally and then nationally. Along the way we’ve added additional services such as court filing, skip tracing, and document retrieval. We deliver cutting-edge technology via web portals and mobile apps to our clients and teams. As an established industry leader, Firefly has developed revolutionary innovations and followed the legal industry’s best practices. Unlike other firms, we mix technology with human touch. Our customer service is unmatched and we have representatives available by phone and email to answer any questions.
What are the challenges that your clients face, and how do you help mitigate those?
In the age of COVID-19, most organizations are working remotely. Furthermore, several courts still require physical court filings and have not moved to the electronic format. With limited staff and some courthouse closures, many law firms had difficulty filing court papers. Our services enable clients to send us assignments electronically as well as e-file cases. The data integrations created with our clients allow less data entry and simpler management of the files. With our technology and automation, law firms can be flexible, scalable, and efficient with their remote workforce.
Could you elaborate on your services and the process that you follow while delivering them?
Firefly has a range of services that include process serving, skip tracing, court filing, and document retrieval. Partnering with attorneys and vendors, we provide superior service through our mobile web app for process servers, real-time reporting from the field, and electronic data interface bridging.
As a trusted partner to our clients, we tenaciously innovate ways to improve the lives of our clients and those working in the industry
Could you elaborate on the process server web app?
We began developing the process server web app back when Windows Mobile and PalmPilots were trendy and the iPhone was not yet invented. Process serving was a paper-intensive process. Previously, servers needed to pick up work from a location, fill out field sheets, then bring everything back to the office to create an affidavit. Evolving over the years, we now automatically send data and documents to our process servers across the country electronically. They verify receipt of the files using our software, record every detail of the attempt in real-time via their cell phone, and take photos of the property. Upon serving the file, the software allows the affidavit to be electronically signed when permitted and then sends it to courthouses and clients simultaneously.
Could you give us a client success story?
Firefly cares about the needs of our clients, so in 2007 we reached out to them and demonstrated the inefficiency of their processes. Clients were making unnecessary copies of documents to submit to the courthouse to have date-stamped by the clerk. We asked them to make one copy, which we then physically filed with the court. Next, we scanned the court-stamped documents and only printed the necessary copies. This enabled clients to turn in only one copy in the courtroom and keep an electronic one for reference. As a result, they saved time, money, and effort in their copy rooms. Eventually we started e-filing for our clients, replacing traditional clerking services and saving clients crucial time and costs of hiring new staff due to technological advancement.
What is the key differentiating factor between you and your competitors?
Firefly is family-owned and operated and we believe it is important to treat our clients as a part of our family. We deliver our customer service as a combination of technology and human interaction to guarantee complete client satisfaction. Firefly Legal’s team is always available virtually or in-person to answer client’s questions for their success. We are flexible and stand ready and willing to meet clients’ needs.
What does the future look like for the company?
Firefly is planning to expand its footprint both physically and virtually across the country to better serve our current and potential clients. We are continuously enhancing our e-filing services and business intelligence to reduce inefficiencies within the legal space. Our software is also being improved to automate manual tasks. In addition to technology, we strive to become a trusted and valued partner to our clients with our customer service. Since change is constant, we are always evolving and learning in order to deliver the best services to clients and aid in their success.
